Meet Curtis

Curtis Dueck Registered Clinical Counsellor in Abbotsford BC

I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor specializing in Emotion-Focused Therapy, but I’m also someone who’s been where you’ve been, and have walked the journey of change and healing myself.

In therapy I treat you like a person, not a patient. I keep the process conversational, I give you immediate feedback, and bring the energy of a human, not a sterile clinician.

Blending genuine compassion with an objective expert perspective, working with me provides a comfortable and safe environment to do the important work of feeling and healing.

Issues I Work With

  • It’s hard to make progress in life when you’re the one holding yourself back.
    -
If you make things hard on yourself through beating yourself up, negative self talk, pushing yourself to the point of burnout, fixating on any mistake you make, or any other form of self-criticism, this is where change can start for you.
    -
I’ve trained in some of the most effective tools for reversing, not just coping with, an excessive inner critic. And I’m here to help you put an end to it today.

  • When someone passed away, has chosen to exit our lives, is unsafe to engage with or simply won’t discuss issues at hand, we are often still left with intense emotions that don’t seem to change.
    -
Through therapy we can do more than cope with those feelings, we can transform them into something more helpful and easier to carry.
    -
And we don’t need the other person’s help to do it.

  • You can know everything about a problem, but too often that knowledge does nothing to fix the way you feel. If you’re tired of the anger, sadness, resentment, anxiety, or any other persistent emotional state that you can’t seem to change, you’re in the right place.
    -
With specialized training in Emotion-Focused Therapy, my primary goal with clients is helping them transform their feelings, not just learning to cope with the stuck, painful emotions we carry.

  • When you’re in a job that requires you to run towards danger, normal counselling won’t always cut it.
    -
Whether its critical incidents on the job, dealing with lesser known challenges like lack of organizational support, or concerns that have nothing to do with the job, those who help others deserve to have someone who helps them.
    -
My experience goes beyond the counselling office, I’ve worked beside first responders in high stress environments, I know your world and what it’s like.

What to Expect in Therapy

I use a hybrid style of therapy, pulling from emotional, cognitive, and body-based therapy tools depending on the issues and the approach that we find works best for you.

My foundational approach and specialization is Emotion-Focused Therapy, a method of therapy that works directly with your feelings to go beyond coping with them to actually transform and heal them.

It often means we do less thinking and more doing. Instead of talking about our feelings, we engage them right there in the session.
