About Curtis

Curtis Dueck, MA, RCC

Its hard to describe how grateful I feel being in the position to join people in their process of healing and change. I’ve watched clients grow tremendously and take action in ways that, for years, they never believed they could. I never thought this is what I would be doing when I grew up, but now that I’m here I can’t imagine doing anything else.

Some of my favourite parts of the counselling process are watching clients realize that who they think they are is just a fraction of who they truly are, that their pain from the past can actually be transformed in the present, and hearing about how skills we practiced in a session helped them respond differently to a challenge in their life outside of the counselling office.

Professional Certifications

In order to further hone my craft as a clinician, I regularly participate in continuing education courses and pursue additional certifications beyond having a Masters degree and being certified by the governing organization for counsellors in BC, the BCACC. Currently my continuing education efforts are focused on increasing my certification level in Emotion-Focused Therapy.

  • Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) - BC Association of Clinical Counsellors

  • Masters of Arts (MA) in Clinical Counselling - Trinity Western University (2017)

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) Level 1 (through ISEFT)

  • First Responder Health Silver Endorsed Occupationally Aware Clinician

  • Existential Analysis (EA) Society of Canada - Trainee

  • Observed and Experiential Integration (OEI) Level 2

  • Gottman Couples Method Level 1

  • Sandplay Therapy trained

Additional Projects

Outside of direct 1-to-1 counselling, I spend time consulting with primary, middle, and secondary schools to help them effectively integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) into school curriculum. SEL aids students in developing skills in emotional awareness and expression.

I also produce video content for platforms like YouTube to equip the general public with skills and knowledge around issues of emotions and mental health.

One of my biggest goals as a practitioner in the field of psychology is to help more people understand how to relate to their emotions in a way that benefits their lives and the lives of the people around them, rather than feeling like their emotions are an impediment that they have to endure or overcome. I’m focused on directing all of my energy at this larger goal, be that through my individual counselling practice, program development, creating educational resources, consulting or public speaking.
