About Therapy

Areas of Clinical Practice

Each counsellor has what is called a “scope of practice”, or a set of issues and styles of therapy we specialize in and focus most of our work on. Here are several of my primary areas of practice.

If you experience excessive worry, nervousness, or even panic attacks, you may be looking for a way to stop those experiences. In counselling, we can explore what anxiety is, understand why you are experiencing anxiety, and discover methods for being able to face those same situations that produced anxiety with peace and calm.

Anxiety

When we feel low, lack energy and motivation, or may be so hopeless we want to give up on everything, it can be a lonely place. Counselling can offer a place to understand why depression has emerged and steadily implement actions to rise out of what can be a dark and numbing space.

Depression

Sometimes events shake us deeply, leaving a lasting impact. Others may not see it, but we experience it daily. In counselling we build resources to deal with the effects of trauma like panic and emotional pain, and gently unravel our traumatic experience in managable peices, putting the past back where it belongs and allowing us to move forward.

Trauma

Alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex, food, scrolling through Instagram, almost anything can become an addiction if we get stuck in a pattern of compulsive behaviour. Counselling for addiction looks like breaking down our problem into tiny, actionable steps, and then walking the road of doing things differently day by day, however long it takes.

Addiction

Whether we come from a spiritual or religious background or not, we all ask ourselves at points “what does it all mean”? We might feel unfulfilled or aimless. Counselling, specifically Existential Analysis, provides a framework for us to slow down and deeply explore these questions, discovering our ability to have a truly meaningful dialogue with this life.

Meaning & Purpose

Getting support in counselling doesn’t have to only focus on things that are wrong. There are places in life where we can make improvements to things that are already ok but we still see room for growth. Counselling can help maximize your functioning in many different aspects of life, big and small.
